There is a Virginia winery for everyone – couples, families, those with fantastic patio views, and of course, those with tasting rooms you’ll never forget. We polled friends around Virginia to seek their favorite tasting room. Visit for yourself to see why these are so loved, or chime in with your favorite now.
— Early Mountain, Madison —
“Early Mountain’s tasting room and view are great.”
“Early Mountain Vineyards is owned by Steve and Jean Case, inventors of AOL, and their great touch is on everything here. The tasting room is huge with lovely Piedmont views out the big back window. The staff is excellently trained and the whole place is knee-deep in Virginia hospitality.”
— Grayhaven Winery, Gum Spring —
“The tasting room is very cozy and rustic. It’s an intimate setting, and feels like it would be fantastic for private parties. “
— Mediterranean Cellars, Warrenton —
“Mediterranean Cellars is a personal favorite. It’s a small winery in Fauquier and its tasting room, while small, is nicely appointed. The thing that makes it special for me are the proprietors, Louis and Katy Papadopoulos. Wonderful folks originally from Greece. When Katy is behind the tasting counter you hear her soft Greek accent and she is just the warmest and sweetest person. This is one of the most welcoming of all tasting rooms in Virginia.”
— Fifty Third Winery, Louisa —
“My favorite is Fifty Third Winery. It is an unexpected gem in Louisa County. The tasting room is packed every weekend and you meet the most wonderful people there from EVERYWHERE. Most weekends they have music – on nice weather days it’s perfect to sit on the deck, listen to music and enjoy some of the best wine made in Virginia! I love it there. Plus, this winery is totally green – everything is made of a recycled something.”
“The tasting room is very open and spacious, but still feels warm and comfortable, with lots of separate seating areas, as well as the tasting bar. The room was built with repurposed and recycled materials, and they are very pleased with having earned a Virginia Green status.”
— Greenhill Winery and Vineyards, Middleburg —
“Greenhill Winery and Vineyards is just outside Middleburg … if you become a member of their Wine Club (and I think you are only required to buy 12 bottles a year) your ‘tasting room’ is a Colonial era house. Seriously, it is a beautiful place.”
— West Wind Winery, Max Meadows —
“West Wind Winery has a beautiful tasting room, gift shop and views of the mountains on their patio. Their wines are delicious too! Not far from Wytheville, it is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the vino.”
“Being situated in the rolling hills of Wytheville, the farmland and vineyard is a respite with its own unique characters … exceptional wines available for tastings, touring, pairing and purchasing; an appointed room capable of hosting special occasions, meals, and local musicians and a warm friendly family and staff to serve you and all guests. It’s my secret favorite place…”

“I especially like their tasting room this time of year, when there is a slight chill in the air. It’s roomy, yet cozy and warm – perfect after a cool fall foliage ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway.”
“Chateau Morrisette: The tall beamed ceiling is made from local timber with wooden pegs. The tasting bar is made from rocks and provides a long bar for all the group. They often have tasting samples of mustards, dips, and sauces made from their wines. An amazingly beautiful setting on top of the mountain provides views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and valleys below.”
— Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards, North Garden —
“Pippin Hill not only has a gorgeous view outside but their tasting room inside is equally as nice. They have a very large tasting area with a beautiful wooden bar surrounded by tables, chairs, cozy couches and lots of windows to take in the view. Outside is a huge covered porch with lots of seating area. They also have a full menu to enjoy while tasting wine.”

“Jefferson Vineyards is great because it’s easy to get to! It’s right off the interstate, close to Monticello and Carter Mountain Orchards, so you can plan a fun day in the area. The tasting room is very cozy with a wood burning stove in the corner and tables to relax and taste wine—I think it’s a great place in the fall or winter to stop in a spend an afternoon.”
— King Family Vineyards, Crozet —
“King’s tasting room is warm, beautiful, with fireplaces and lots of light coming in, tables for enjoying a sip of your favorite wine!”

“I love their tasting room this time of year. If it is cold outside you can sit by the roaring wood fire place, or if there is only a little chill in the air you can sit out on the veranda and look at the beautiful color of the leaves.”

“It is a beautifully elegant tasting room as is the entire winery. A perfect place to hold a wedding and reception.”

Molina Lave in Warrenton, a relative of Mediterranean Cellars, should also be on the list.
And a small vineyard, Caret Cellars in Caret Va is also well worth the drive.
